Women?s Golf Faces SDSU in Final Round of Match Play

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.—After edging No. 19 Pepperdine, 3-2, in the second round of match play, the No. 22 Arizona State women’s golf team fell to No. 40 Colorado in Tuesday’s afternoon round at the SDSU Farms Invitational.  Finishing the match tied at 2.5 with the Buffaloes, the Sun Devils lost in a tiebreaker at the par-72, 6,237-yard Farms Golf Club.

Arizona State will face No. 24 San Diego State in the championship consolation A bracket in Wednesday’s final round of match play. 

Round Two 

Senior Noemi Jimenez, sophomore Monica Vaughn, and freshman Ashleigh Greenham all won for Arizona State in Tuesday’s morning round.  Jimenez and Vaughn both recorded three and two advantages over their Waves opponents, while Greenham finished one up over Katherine Zhu.   

Pepperdine’s Somin Lee and Marisa Chow took down freshmen Sophia Zeeb and Roberta Liti, respectively.  Lee recorded a five and three advantage over Zeeb, while Chow finished two up over Liti. 

The Sun Devils carded 13 birdies in the second round and were 2-under in par-five scoring.  Through two rounds, Liti and Vaughn were tied for most birdies carded (10) with Tennessee’s A.J. Newell, while ASU led the field with 32 birdies. 

With the second-round win, Arizona State faced Colorado in round three’s championship bracket.

Round Three

The Sun Devils battled the Buffs throughout Tuesday’s afternoon round, finishing in a 2.5-2.5 tie.  Colorado ultimately advanced on a tiebreaker. 

Jimenez and Vaughn recorded the Sun Devils’ only wins against the Buffs, while Liti halved her match against Colorado’s Esther Lee.  The Buffs’ Jamie Oleksiew and Alexis Keating recorded two and one and three and two advantages against Greenham and Zeeb, respectively. 

In the third round, Arizona State led the field in par-four scoring and in most pars carded (56).  Through 54 holes, Liti is tied with Long Beach State’s Kassidy Teare for most birdies carded (12), while the Sun Devils remain on top with 38 birdies.
