Baseball's rivalry week set for the weekend

THIS WEEKEND: Starting on Thursday, rivaly week has Washington, and its three-game win streak at Washington State, which has won three of four... on Friday, a battle of the Pac-12’s top rotations, in UCLA at USC, in the Bay Area, the Bears and its own solid rotation host Stanford, and Oregon State, which features the Pac-12 leader in RBIs, KJ Harrison, is at Oregon... on Saturday, Phoenix should see a lot of scoring as ASU and Arizona have both scored over 5.5 runs per game this season...  also Southland leader SE Louisiana visits Utah starting on Friday.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: USC’s Bobby Stahel is on a current 14-game hit streak, four short of the conference high this season held by ASU’s Trever Allen (18) and Cal’s Lucas Erceg (18)... 18 players have pitched for Stanford this year, as projected (and injured) weekend starters Cal Quantrill, John Hochstatter and Marc Bradkeman have started a combined eight of 30 games... Scott Kingery (.477) and Arizona (.323) remain the national leaders in average...  USC is in the national top-10 in steals, Arizona in triples, Oregon in walks and sacrifices... UCLA has the nation’s eighth-best strikeout to walk ratio and fourth-best ERA (2.22)

MLB OPENING DAY: On Opening Day 2015, the Pac-12 Conference will feature 42 former players on MLB rosters and another five as its managers. (see following pages)

The MLB list includes 13 former All-Stars, including former MVP Dustin Pedroia (Arizona State) and fellow Gold Glove All-Star teammate Andre Ethier (Arizona State). Also making All-Star teams are Jacoby Ellsbury (Oregon State), Chase Utley (UCLA), Carlos Quentin (Stanford) and two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum (Washington). 

NATIONAL RANKINGS: UCLA is up to No. 3 in Collegiate Baseball, followed by the Sun Devils (No. 8), USC (No. 10), California (No. 14), Oregon State (No. 20, 22-9) and Arizona (No. 24, 22-9). In Baseball America, USC (25-6) is No. 6 followed by No. 7 UCLA (23-6), No. 9 Arizona State (21-8) and No. 23 California (21-9).
