AD reminds Bobby Hurley to thank his parents during introductory press conference

Apr 10, 2015

It's safe to say there was a lot of things going through the mind of Bobby Hurley Friday morning as he was officially introduced as Arizona State's next men's basketball coach. One of the things that wasn't: Mentioning his parents who were at the press conference in Tempe.

The former Duke point guard managed to acknowledge his wife, children and even assistant coach Levi Watkins, who worked with Hurley at the University at Buffalo and is now part of the new Sun Devil staff.

But it was the two people most fundamentally responsible for his hiring that failed to make the cut in his introductory comments.

"How'd I miss that? Wow," Hurley quipped after Vice President of University Athletics Ray Anderson pointed out the oversight. "Mom and Dad, I'm really sorry. This has SportsCenter 'Not Top 10' written all over it."

Hurley went on to rectify the flub by formally introducing his mother and crediting his father, Naismith Hall of Fame inductee Bob Hurley Sr., for teaching him everything he knows about the sport.
