No. 8 UCLA Sweeps California, 5-0

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The eighth-ranked UCLA Bruins (9-3) put an end to a two-match skid, with a 5-0 sweep of California (7-14) in the consolation bracket of the Pac-12 Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Bruins got the first point at No. 1 doubles when Kamila Tan and Zoë Nightingale defeated Cal's Sarah Cole and Emily Lunt, 21-11, 21-19. Tan had 17 kills and 10 digs while Nightingale added 12 kills and four blocks. The Bruin pair is now 8-4 on the year.

The Bruins' got the second point of the match at No. 4 doubles when Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye defeated Mackenzie Feldman and Sammy Furlan in straight sets, 21-13, 21-13. Drolson had 14 kills and 15 digs while Inoue added nine kills, 18 digs and four aces. The Bruin pair is now 13-2 on the year.

UCLA clinched the win at the No. 3 flight after Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver posted a straight-set win over the Golden Bears' Inanna Eshoo and Katie Regalia, 21-11, 21-18. Weaver had 15 kills and seven digs while Consani had 12 kills and six digs. The Bruin duo is now 8-5 on the year.

At the No. 5 flight, Lexi Jasper-Baylin and Ivey Schmitt won in straight sets, 21-15, 21-19 over Cal's Allison Leong and Teya Neff. Schmitt had 15 kills and seven digs while Jasper-Baylin added nine kills and eight digs for UCLA. The Bruin duo is now 6-1 on the season.

UCLA completed the sweep at the No. 2 flight as the Bruins' Elise Zappia and Madie Smith won in straight sets, 21-15, 21-17. Zappia had 16 kills and 18 digs while Smith ended with 14 kills and 13 digs. The duo improves to 14-5 on the season.

The Bruins now face Arizona State (6-11) in the consolation bracket later today.
