Lee Named First-Team All-Pac-12
BOULDER - Not to be lost with all the records the University of Colorado women's golf team set in the final round of the 2015 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship, sophomore Esther Lee also accomplished something no other Buffalo ever has, being named first-team All-Pac-12 Conference.
Lee was one of 13 golfers named to the all-conference team, alongside some of the top ranked golfers in the country. Lee joins former Buffs Emily Childs, Emily Talley and Jessica Wallace as program's first-team selections to an all-conference team, those three all accomplishing the feat in the Big 12.
In 2012, three Buffs earned All-Pac-12 honors when Talley was named second-team All-Pac-12 alongside Alex Stewart and Wallace earned honorable mention status.
Lee has put together one of the best seasons in CU history and is currently ranked the No. 14 player nationally by Golfweek and No. 26 by Golf Week. After finishing 12th at the Pac-12 Championships earlier Wednesday, she has a stroke average of 72.89 and is on pace to set the school mark.
She shot a 2-over par 215 (76-68-71) at the Pac-12 Championships and moved ahead of the school record pace of 72.97, set by Jessica Wallace in 2010-11. Should she hold onto her current rankings, she will also end the season as the highest ranked CU golfer in program history.
She has nine top 15 finishes on the season in 10 events and with her 68 in the second round at Boulder Country Club where the Buffs hosted the 29th Annual Pac-12 Championships, she recorded her fifth round in the 60s this season, most in program history and good enough for third on CU's career chart.
Lee and the Buffs will now await their fate for the postseason as the NCAA regional selection show is set to air on Monday, April 27. NCAA Regionals will take place May 7-9 in four locations nationally, Raleigh, N.C., South Bend, Ind., San Antonio, Texas and St. George, Utah. The NCAA Championships then take place May 22-27 in Bradenton, Fla.
