REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – In the 82nd annual Big Row between California and Stanford, the top-ranked Golden Bears men's crew defeated the No. 12 Cardinal in all three races Saturday morning at Redwood Shores. Cal and Stanford once again competed in honor of Jill Costello with the Bears donning special uniforms and both crews competing as Team Jill.

“Today is dedicated to Jill,” said California head men's crew coach Mike Teti. “She has been an inspiration to every student-athlete at Cal. We try and make sure if we are going to honor Jill, we have a pretty good showing and we did today. Jill and her family mean so much to us.”

The Bears' varsity eight raced to an open water victory over Stanford, completing the course in a season-best time of 5:31.2 to Stanford's 5:48.0. Cal's varsity eight completed the regular season undefeated in seven races.

“Going into the championship season you want to be ascending into it,” Teti said. “Each week you want to improve a little bit and I think they are doing that. I think all our boats have been getting better. We will keep going and hope to continue to improve going into the Pac-12 Championships.”

The second varsity got the Bears their second win of the morning, with a time of 5:46.1, defeating Stanford by open water (6:02.4).

Racing began on the men's side with the Freshmen Eight. The Bears raced down the 2,000-meter course in a time of 5:47.1 to win by open water over the Cardinal (6:15.5). The Freshman Eight completed the regular season undefeated in six races.

Next up for Cal is the Pac-12 Championships on Gold River near Sacramento, Calif. on Sunday, May 17. Following the conference championships, Cal will head to the IRA Championships on Mercer Lake in New Jersey from May 29-31.
