Pac-12 announces softball players of the week / UCLA Athletics

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference office announced the softball weekly honors for play from Apr. 27-May 3. OREGON’s Hailey Decker was voted Player of the Week, while UCLA’s Ally Carda was named Pitcher of the Week and UO’s Lauren Lindvall was named Freshman of the Week.

Decker (Keizer, Ore.) hit a whopping .700 in the Ducks’ sweep of No. 18 California, slugging 1.500 as she went 7-for-10 with two doubles, two home runs and eight runs batted in. The first base player opened the series with a 2-for-3 performance on Friday, driving in two runs on two doubles in the 5-2 victory. Decker then gave the Ducks an early lead in Saturday’s 9-0, run-rule victory, going 1-for-3 on a two-run homer in the first inning. In Sunday’s 17-1 win, Decker was a perfect 4-for-4, including a home run and four RBI.

Carda (Elk Grove, Calif.) picked up all three victories in the seventh-ranked Bruins’ sweep of No. 16 Arizona last weekend, striking out 18 in 12.0 innings and posting a 1.75 earned run average with just three runs and eight hits allowed against the potent Wildcat offense. She opened by pitching five innings with seven strikeouts in the 9-1 win on Friday, then followed with five shutout innings in Saturday’s 6-3 victory, adding another seven K’s. Carda reached 25 wins on the season with another relief stint on Sunday, fanning four in two innings as UCLA won, 15-7. The three wins extend UCLA’s win streak to 13 straight games. Carda is now 25-4 on the season and has a 1.97 ERA, having struck out 245 batters in 174.0 innings.

Lindvall (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) appeared in two games for the Ducks over the weekend, beginning with a 3-for-3 performance in Saturday’s win over Cal. The freshman homered twice in the contest, both of them solo shots on the first pitch of the at-bat, and added an RBI single to tally three RBI. Lindvall went 1-for-3 in the series finale, scoring another run. In total, she went 4-for-6 on the weekend with three runs scored and three RBI, adding an errorless 1.000 fielding percentage.

Decker and Lindvall both pick up their first-career weekly honors as the Ducks now have 63 honors all-time. Carda earns her seventh-career weekly honor, giving UCLA 137 all-time.

Both squads hit the road with their eye on the Pac-12 title as the regular season comes to an end this weekend. Oregon plays a three-game series at Arizona beginning Thursday, May 7, with the first two games to be televised on Pac-12 Networks and the series finale slated on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. UCLA ends its regular season with a three-game series at Arizona State, also starting Thursday, May 7, with all three games scheduled to be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
