Pac-12 announces track and field athletes of the week
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the the week of April 27-May 3:
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: ANDRE DE GRASSE, USC (Jr., Ontario, Canada.). Junior Andre De Grasse was the winner in the 100-meter dash with a USC Loker Stadium-record of 10.04, helping the Trojans defeat UCLA in the annual dual meet between the teams. His time tied the dual-meet record set by Ato Boldon in 1996. De Grasse now has the fastest wind-legal 100-meter and 200-meter (20.16) times among all collegians with the 200-meter time recorded at the Mt. SAC Relays a couple of weeks ago. De Grasse also took second in the 200 meter race, finishing behind teammate BeeJay Lee with a time of 20.74 as USC swept the race in an eventual one-point meet win. His day began by running the second leg in the winning 4x100m relay which went 39.42 then closed the meet by running the third leg in USC’s 4x400m relay which needed to win to capture the team title for the first time since 2010. The team won the race with a time of 3:09.89. It is the third time this season De Grasse has earned the Conference’s weekly honor.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: BRYAN MCBRIDE, ASU (RS-Sr., Peoria, Ariz.). Arizona State redshirt senior Bryan McBride broke the 38-year-old school record in the high jump on Saturday at the Duel In The Desert at as he cleared 7-6.50 (2.30m) on his second attempt. The clearance not only unseated Kyle Arney’s 1977 clearance of 7-6.00 (2.29m), which McBride cleared last week at the Drake Relays, but is also a new Sun Angel Stadium venue record. The mark also ties for fifth all-time in Pac-12 history. Not only did the defending NCAA Champion compete in his signature event, but he also set new personal bests in the long jump and high jump, totaling 13 points towards the team’s total. In the long jump, McBride won with a mark of 24-7.75 (7.51m), and then took second in the triple jump with a best mark of 50-9.25 (15.47m). He reached his best marks in the long jump and triple jump with only three and two attempts, respectively. As a team, the ASU men defeated Pac-12 rival Arizona, 92-71.

Stanford freshman Marisa Kwiatkowski jumped personal record distances in the long and triple jumps at the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday. A dual citizen of the U.S. and Philippines, her 41-7 (12.67m) in the triple jump was third and would have been a Philippines junior record if it had not been aided by a 2.2 mps wind. She also jumped a personal best of 19-4 (5.89m) to finish 10th in the long jump.
