No. 19 Women?s Golf Heads to NCAA Regionals

San Antonio, Texas—The No. 19 Arizona State women’s golf team begins its quest for its 24th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance when it competes as the No. 5 seed at the NCAA San Antonio Regional, May 7-9.  The Regional Championships will be held at the par-72, 6,350-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio.   

The Sun Devils join No. 3 UCLA, No. 6 Washington, No. 11 Texas A&M, and No. 14 Tennessee as the top five seeds in the San Antonio Regional.  The top six teams and top three individuals from non-advancing teams will move on to the 2015 NCAA Championships in Bradenton, Fla., hosted by the University of South Florida, May 22-27.    

This season, the Sun Devils recorded seven top-10 finishes, four of which were top-five finishes.  The squad took home the team title at the 2015 Clover Cup in March and tied for second at the PING/ASU Invitational in April.  Senior Noemi Jimenez, ranked 17th in the nation according to Golfstat, leads the Sun Devils with her 72.40 scoring average.  Jimenez, the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, has recorded four top-five finishes this season, most recently finishing fourth at the Pac-12 Championships. 

Rounding out the Sun Devil lineup are sophomore Monica Vaughn and freshmen Sophia Zeeb, Roberta Liti, and Ashleigh Greenham.  Vaughn has been a big contributor for the Sun Devils this season.  Ranked 22nd in the nation, the sophomore has recorded four top-ten finishes this season, including her first collegiate title at the PING/ASU Invitational.    

First round action starts at 7:30 a.m. CDT/5:30 a.m. PDT on Thursday, May 7.  The fifth-seeded Sun Devils will tee off from hole one with fourth-seeded Tennessee and sixth-seeded Baylor beginning at 8:24 a.m./6:24 a.m. 

The Sun Devils hold the record for the most consecutive NCAA Championship appearances with 23 straight.  Arizona State also leads the nation in NCAA Championships with seven and NCAA individual titles with five.
