On to the Supers: Seventh-Seeded Bruins Mercy San Diego State

LOS ANGELES - The seventh-seeded Bruins hit four more home runs on Sunday in the Regional Championship Game against San Diego State, as senior Stephany LaRosa, sophomores Gabrielle Maurice and Delaney Spaulding and freshman Kylee Perez all left the yard in UCLA's 8-0, six-inning victory at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improve to 48-10 on the year and will host #10-seed Missouri in next weekend's Super Regionals at Easton Stadium. Game 1 will be Saturday at 5 p.m. The best 2-of-3 series continues on Sunday at 12 p.m., with the if necessary game at 3 p.m. All games will air on ESPNU. The Aztecs conclude their season at 38-20.

UCLA collected nine hits from seven players, as LaRosa had two hits with three RBI, while junior Allexis Bennett chipped in a pair of hits.

Senior Ally Carda improved to 29-6 on the season, striking out two in a three-hit shutout, while giving up three walks. Carda retired nine in a row through the second, third and fourth innings.

Playing as the visiting team, the Bruins got the bats going in their first at-bat, as Spaulding led off the game with a homer to right, her 19th of the season.

UCLA added another run in the second. Senior Gracie Goulder led off with an infield single and moved to second on a Perez grounder, which was followed by walks to Spaulding and Bennett to load the bases. Another free pass to Carda would force home Goulder to put the Bruins up 2-0.

In the fifth, the Bruins added two more. With one out, LaRosa singled up the middle, and one out later, Maurice sent one out of the park to left-center, her ninth of the year, to make it 4-0.

UCLA tacked on four more in the sixth. Perez led the inning off with a homer to center, her fifth, to extend the lead to 5-0. A walk to Spaulding and a single for Bennett followed, and one out later, LaRosa brought them both and herself in on a homer to right, her 18th of the year, to extend the advantage to 8-0.
