BOULDER -The world's best track and field athletes are heading to Beijing to compete at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships, August 22-30, and that includes a pair of former Buffs and Olympians, Emma Coburn and Jenny Simpson.
Coburn (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Simpson (1,500-meters) won their respective events at the USA Track and Field Championships last June and are positioned to do well on the world stage. Simpson currently ranks fourth in the world, while Coburn is fifth.
Simpson has had success at the recent world championships. She won the gold medal at the 2011 championship and earned the silver medal in 2013. Simpson was the 2014 IAAF Diamond League 1,500 meter champion, which automatically qualified her for this year's world championship.
Not to be outdone, Coburn has seen her share of success on the international level. She won the steeplechase at the IAAF Continental Cup in 2014 after clocking the fastest time by an American in the event at the Glasgow British Athletics Diamond League where she placed second overall (9:11.42).
A complete schedule for Simpson and Coburn is listed below. For more information, checkout USATF.org.
