STANFORD, Calif.- The Stanford sailing team showed early-season depth this past weekend, sending six teams to five competitions in three states.

The Cardinal dominated at the PCCSC Women's Singlehanded Championship, earning first and second place. Sophomore Haley Fox took the crown with five wins in seven races, and freshman Olivia Gugliemini was runner-up.

At the PCCSC Men's Singlehanded Championship, sophomore Luke Muller won his second title in as many years. Muller announced his arrival to college sailing last season when he won the PCCSC Singlehanded and finished second at singlehanded nationals. Freshman William Marshall finished fourth.

At the Stedman Hood Trophy in Boston, Stanford finished seventh in a highly-competitive field. Sophomore skipper Will La Dow and senior crew Yuki Yoshiyasu claimed seventh place in the A-division, while the all-freshman duo of Russell Clarida and Grace Booker claimed ninth in the B-division.

The Cardinal had two teams competing at the Trojan Women's Invite, hosted by USC. With Fox, freshman skipper Cassie Obel took second place, finishing in the top-3 eight times in 14 races. Sophomore skipper Elena Vandenberg and Gugliemini took fourth.

Stanford also sent a team to St. Mary's City, Maryland, to compete in the St. Mary's Fall Interconference. Sophomore Julia Lambert skippered the Cardinal A-squad to 12th place in the division with freshman crew Maggie Schult. In the B-division, junior skipper Maeve White and freshman crew Meg Gerli finished 15th. Stanford finished 15th in the event.

The Cardinal is back in action in two weeks when it competes in the Navy Women's in Annapolis, Maryland, and the Stanford Match Race in Redwood City, California.
