Roundup: Bruins cruise, Utes look to stay undefeated

The Bruins got right Thursday night, smashing Cal 40-24 behind a brilliant Josh Rosen performance. Kyle Bonagura breaks down UCLA’s win over Cal. Both teams are now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. However, he also reports that coach Jim Mora said the injuries to Paul Perkins and Isaako Savaiinaea are “not good.” The Bruins can’t catch a break on the injury bug front.

Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that Cal flopped on national television in its 16-point loss to the Bruins.

The marquee game of the weekend in the eyes of the national spotlight is Utah at USC (4:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m. MT, FOX). If the SLC boys want to stay No. 3 and undefeated, they could use a big game out of Utah free safety Marcus Williams, who already has four picks this year. It sounds like you wouldn’t have fun playing against him in spades, not to mention a football game, unless you like being yapped at.

On the other sideline, USC running back Ronald Jones II is improving in all facets, reports Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.

As the Cougars get ready to play at Arizona (1 p.m. PT, Pac-12 Networks), David Lombardi discusses how Washington State and Luke Falk have had success this year. In Lombo’s eyes, the keys are physicality and offensive balance (the Cougars have actually been pretty solid on the ground this year).

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said the Pac-12 can’t help Arizona out on late kickoff times due to television deals that have been previously negotiated, writes Jon Solomon of CBS Sports. The Wildcats have been playing a lot of road night games, and their next road game at Washington will kick off at 8 p.m. PT. RichRod is understandably upset about it.

Stanford hosts Washington in one of the two Pac-12 nightcaps (7:30 p.m., ESPN), and Tom FitzGerald notes that night games are becoming a regularity for Stanford football. All four of Stanford’s home games thus far have been played at 7:30 p.m.

Washington coach Chris Petersen doesn’t have an update on quarterback Jake Browning, who injured his throwing shoulder late against Oregon.

Is this the week the Buffs get it done? Colorado heads to Corvallis looking to break a 14-game conference losing skid (7:30 p.m. PT, Pac-12 Networks), and Buffzone.com has the Colorado-Oregon State scouting report. The Buffs nearly got the Beavs last year.
