Irvine, Calif. – Another day, another Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record for a Cardinal.

A day after Bret Bonanni broke the Stanford and MPSF career scoring record, junior goalie Drew Holland posted an MPSF single-game record 23 saves to highlight a dominating performance on both ends in No. 5 Stanford's 7-0 shutout victory over No. 7 UC Irvine Sunday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex in Irvine, Calif.

Holland, whose previous high was 13 saves registered three times earlier this season, reached the record number of stops en route to the shutout victory. It's Stanford's second shutout of the season, the Cardinal blanked Santa Clara, 18-0, on Sept. 19 at Avery Aquatic Center with Oliver Lewis in the cage.

Offensively, senior BJ Churnside guided the Cardinal attack with his third hat trick of the season.

UC Irvine (11-9, 1-5 MPSF) was whistled for an exclusion penalty 17 seconds into the game, and seven seconds later Churnside put home Stanford's first score of the afternoon. Sophomore Cody Smith added a score later in the first quarter to give the Cardinal a 2-0 advantage after one period.

Senior Bret Bonanni added to his all-time record scoring total, following Churnside's second goal of the contest with a pair of his own during the second and third quarters.

Redshirt junior Adam Warmoth found the back of the cage late in the third quarter to give Stanford a 6-0 advantage.

Churnside capped the scoring midway through the fourth quarter, recording the hat trick as the Cardinal punctuated the 7-0 win over UC Irvine.

Holland's counterpart, Anteater goalie Dylan Peterson had 16 saves in the contest.

Stanford will close its regular-season schedule with three games at home, beginning next Friday (Nov. 6) against Pepperdine at Avery Aquatic Center.
