Cats Swept By Huskies

TUCSON - No. 19 Arizona volleyball fell to third-ranked Washington in straight sets on Sunday in McKale (16-25, 17-25, 20-25).

“I think Washington, if it plays like that, has a chance to win the whole thing,” said head coach Dave Rubio. “I think we're a pretty good team and they certainly made quick work of us and made us look bad. I don't think today was a reflection on the type of team we are, just a reflection on how good they are. We just need to get better. Another short week next week with Utah on Thursday.”

Arizona (16-10, 6-8 Pac-12) was limited to .152 hitting in the match. Washington (22-2, 12-2 Pac-12) dug 55 of Arizona's attacks, led by 20 from Cassie Strickland, who added three aces in the contest.

Arizona posted 52 digs, led by Laura Larson's 12, marking her ninth consecutive double-digit-dig match. Penina Snuka collected her Pac-12-leading 16th double-double, and fourth consecutive, with 32 assists and 11 digs.

The Cats struggled to find offensive rhythm against the Husky defense, which outblocked Arizona 8.5-4.0. Kalei Mau recorded 12 kills, but no other Wildcat recorded more than six.

Washington scored the first five points of the match and never looked back in the first, taking the opening frame 25-16. Kalei Mau had six of Arizona's 11 kills in the frame.

The second was more of the same as the Huskies scored eight of the first nine points and cruised to a 25-17 victory.

Arizona bucked the UW quick start trend in the third, as the Cats opened an early lead on Washington, but could not hang with the third-ranked Huskies as UW won 25-20 in the third to sweep Arizona.

Up Next: The Cats head to Utah on Thursday (11/12) before taking on Colorado on Saturday (11/14) in Boulder.
