SEATTLE – In a battle between two top-10 teams, third-ranked Washington defeated No. 6 Stanford, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-15, Thursday, in front of more than 3,600 fans at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The loss drops the Cardinal to 17-6 overall and 11-4 in the Pac-12, while the Huskies improve to 23-2 and 13-2 in the conference.

Playing without freshman Hayley Hodson, who suffered an injury in practice earlier in the week and is day-to-day, the Cardinal was out hit by the Huskies .329 to .193. Washington also won the defensive battle, tallying 13.0 blocks and 71 digs to the Cardinal's 5.0 blocks and 63 digs.

Starting in place of Hodson was sophomore Sidney Brown, who finished one kill shy of a double-double. She notched a season-best nine kills and a career-high 12 digs. Senior outside hitter Jordan Burgess led Stanford with a season-high 14 kills to go with five digs and a block.

Senior setter Madi Bugg finished with her team-best 10th double-double of the year with 46 assists and 12 digs. Redshirt sophomore Merete Lutz led the team with a .407 attack percentage, totaling 13 kills and three blocks.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Howard added 10 kills and 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Freshman libero Halland McKenna collected 16 digs, marking her 18th double-digit dig performance this year.

Washington was led by senior middle blocker Lianna Sybeldon's 17 kills on .517 hitting. Tia Scambray and Melanie Wade tallied 11 kills apiece for the Huskies. Wade also notched eight blocks, while senior libero Cassie Strickland racked-up a match-best 20 digs.

Stanford closes out its four-match road trip at Washington State on Sunday, Nov. 15. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. PT on Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Washington.
