SAN FRANCISCO - For the third consecutive year, CALIFORNIA guard Tyrone Wallace has been named the season's first Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as voted upon by media who cover the conference.

Wallace, who also earned the league's debut Player of the Week award in 2013-14 and 2014-15, flirted with a triple-double in Cal's 97-65 season-opening victory over Rice on Friday, finishing with a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, six rebounds and a career-high nine assists against just one turnover.  It is Wallace's fourth career weekly honor, which is tied for the 14th-most in conference history.

The 6-5 senior from Bakersfield, Calif., is one of 13 Pac-12 student-athletes on Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Player of the Year watch lists, joining OREGON STATE's Gary Payton II as a Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year nominee.  Wallace is the Pac-12's active career leader in points (1,216), assists (308) and steals (113).

The 14th-ranked Golden Bears are one of six Pac-12 teams in action on the first Monday of the 2015-16 season as they play host to UC Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks.

The league will have three teams competing during ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon in No. 16 UTAH (vs. San Diego State, Monday, 6:30 p.m. PT, ESPN2), OREGON (vs. No. 22 Baylor, Monday, 8:30 p.m. PT, ESPN2) and COLORADO (at Auburn, Tuesday, 12:00 p.m. PT, ESPN).
