Beavers Remain Unbeaten After Another Road Victory

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Oregon State defeated UC Santa Barbara, 71-59, on Saturday afternoon at The Thunderdome to sweep a two-game road trip and remain unbeaten on the season.

With the win, the Beavers started 4-0 for just the second time since 2000 after opening with two home wins and a 77-69 victory over Rice in Houston, Texas on Thursday.

Gary Payton II had another spectacular game for Oregon State, going 8-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, to score a game-high 21 points. He added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The senior guard now has at least one steal in 35 consecutive games, just two short of the school record of 37 established by his father over the 1989 and 1990 seasons.

His backcourt mate, Malcolm Duvivier, also had a solid all-around game with 12 points, five rebounds and a career high-tying six assists.

Freshmen played well once again for the Beavers as Stephen Thompson Jr. came off the bench to score 13 points, Drew Eubanks had 10 points and five rebounds and Tres Tinkle scored all eight of his points at the free throw line, going 8-for-8.

John Green led the Gauchos (1-2) with 16 points and Sam Beeler had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Oregon State returns home to face Valparaiso (5-0) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Gill Coliseum. The last time the Beavers started a season 5-0 was 1986 when Gary Payton was a freshman.
