Pac-12 Networks announces 2016 Ice Hockey talent

Inaugural season of ice hockey telecasts features two Arizona State games

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (December 7, 2015) – Pac-12 Networks will televise two ice hockey games in 2016, the first NCAA hockey broadcasts for the Network. Both games will be televised from Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., home to the NHL's Arizona Coyotes.

The telecast schedule opens with Arizona State against Yale at 7 pm PT on January 8 with play-by-play announcer Matt McConnell and analyst Tyson Nash on the call. Closing out the schedule on February 28 at 6 pm PT, play-by-play announcer Jason Knapp and analyst Dave Starman will cover the ASU game against the United States National Under-18 Select team.

In November 2014, Sun Devil Athletics announced the addition of hockey as its 23rd NCAA varsity sport, becoming the first Pac-12 school to sponsor NCAA hockey. Ten of the remaining 11 universities field non-varsity club teams in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

New to the Networks this year are Nash and Starman.

Former left winger Nash joins the Pac-12 Networks as an ice hockey analyst after a playing career that spanned from Phoenix, Arizona to Kushiro City, Japan. Nash entered the spotlight with the Kamloops Blazers, a major junior team in British Columbia. He won three Memorial Cups with the Blazers to become one of three players to win three cups with the same team. In the NHL, Nash played for the St. Louis Blues and the Phoenix Coyotes before eventually ending his career in Japan. He returned to Phoenix as a TV analyst, where he worked alongside McConnell.

​An amateur scout with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens,​ Starman joins the Pac-12 Networks as a hockey analyst. Dave is a 20-year member of the USAH Coaching Education Program, lecturing across many districts of USA Hockey as well as being one of just under 2000 Masters Level coaches certified by USA Hockey. He brings experience in youth and junior hockey on LI, as well as an accomplished background ​coaching ​in professional hockey. He has been a head​ coach, Assistant GM​, assistant coach​ and video coach​ ​in the AHL, IHL, and CHL.​ He last coached at the pro level in 2000, taking over the Memphis RiverKings of the CHL after a three-year stint as the Associate Head Coach of the rival Macon Whoopee of the same league. He is in his 1​3th season with CBS Sports Network as their college hockey analyst and also broadcasted ​seven​​ World Junior Championships on the NHL Network. The last ​four​ years he has been part of ESPN's coverage of the NCAA Men's Hockey Selection Show, ​Regionals and Frozen Four.
