Box Score SEATTLE (AP) - Kay Felder scored a career-high 38 points, Martez Walker added 18 and Oakland used a huge first half offensively to run away from Washington 97-83 on Saturday.
The Golden Grizzlies (7-3) picked up its first road win over a power conference opponent since winning at Tennessee in December 2010, thanks largely to the performance of Felder who came in as the nation's fifth-leading scorer at 24.6 per game. Felder had 25 points in the first half, scoring Oakland's final 14 point, and the Golden Grizzlies shot nearly 54 percent taking a 55-35 lead at the break.
That advantage proved enough as Washington (7-3) could never get closer than 10 in the second half and had its four-game win streak snapped. Matisse Thybulle and Dejounte Murray led the Huskies with 16.
Oakland was bolstered by the season debut of Walker, a transfer from Texas who was eligible for the first time this season. Walker made 7 of 11 shots and was the perfect complement for Felder.
It didn't matter who Washington used to try and slow down Felder in the first half. It was a futile effort, especially late in the half when Felder was responsible for pushing Oakland's lead to 20 at halftime. Felder scored 16 of the final 18 points. He did it a variety of ways - deep 3-pointers, breaking down defenders off the dribble and occasionally scoring in the lane.
Felder made 14 of 27 shots, added nine assists and six rebounds. Jalen Hayes had 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Washington missed 11 straight shots early in the first half and Oakland used a 16-0 run to take control and the Huskies never made enough stops to threaten the Golden Grizzlies. Washington pulled within 10 on Murray's three-point play with 7:08 left in the first half, but he Golden Grizzlies outscored the Huskies 24-14 the rest of the half.
Washington again made a run early in the second half helped by Felder checking out briefly after appearing to twist his ankle during an offensive set. Marquese Chriss scored six straight for the Huskies and Noah Dickerson's fastbreak dunk with 13:43 left pulled Washington within 65-55.
Felder checked in after a timeout and Oakland responded. Walker scored eight straight points set up largely by Felder and the lead was back to 18. Washington was never able to trim the deficit to less than 10 the rest of the way.
