“It was a total team effort and our first 40-minute effort of the year,” coach Wayne Tinkle said. “Shout-out to Beaver Nation, risking the weather and the elements to get here.

“It was a great atmosphere. Beaver Nation rallied, we responded and our guys played to a high level because of that.”

The Beavers never trailed after jumping to a 5-0 advantage on a basket by Schaftenaar and a 3-pointer by Morris-Walker, who had 11 of his 12 points in the first half. OSU led 34-19 at halftime, led by as many as 18 in the second half and did not let Oregon get closer than eight points as it was totally disrupted by a stifling OSU defense.

Oregon (11-3, 0-1) shot just 28 percent (6-21) in the first half and 36 percent (19-53) overall. OSU outrebounded the Ducks 37-32, had a 32-24 edge in points in the paint, a 15-7 advantage in points off turnovers and a 16-9 edge in second-half points.

They also did not allow a fast-break point (7-0) and outscored Oregon 239-21 off the bench in a totally dominating performance.

“We did defend well,” OSU coach Wayne Tinkle said. “We gave up too many easy ones in the second half but to control of the game … I am proud of the leadership our veterans showed and with the way our freshmen played through some mistakes.

“We got it done.”

Tres Tinkle was 5-of-10 from the field, made 9-of-10 free throws and had six rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist in a very productive 27 minutes. He is averaging 16.8 points in his last five games

“I think we played great,” Schaftenaar said. “I'm just happy we got this win in front of these amazing fans. We played with intensity and energy and it's hard to play with us when we have that kind of intensity.”

Associate head coach Kerry Rupp also complimented the Beavers' defense and said they did an excellent job of completing shutting down Oregon's transition game.

“We did a good job of keeping them out of rhythm and flow by changing defenses,” he said. “We were worried about giving them fast-break baskets and we did a good job of that.

“They are very good in transition. We did a good job, for the most point, of making them take tough shots and we really battled on the glass.”

Sunday's contest was part of the 2015-16 Civil War Series, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores.

The Beavers resume Pac-12 play on Wednesday when they host the Stanford
