STANFORD, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford split its two games on the final day of the 2016 Stanford Invitational. The Cardinal secured a 17-6 victory over No. 15 LMU early Sunday morning, but wasn't able to muster enough offense in the afternoon's title match, falling to No. 5 Cal, 5-2.

With the results, the Cardinal finished second at its home tournament and moved to 7-1 on the year. The loss to the Golden Bears snapped Stanford's 32-game winning streak in Avery Aquatic Center. Stanford, 84-5 at home since 2008, hadn't suffered a setback at the iconic venue since April 29, 2012 when it lost to UCLA, 8-7, in the MPSF Tournament Championship.

Stanford returns to action at the Davis Shootout on Sunday, Feb. 21 when it plays the host Aggies (10:30 a.m.) and Brown (2 p.m.). The Cardinal is back at home on Saturday, March 26 when it hosts Arizona State at 11 a.m. in its first Pac-12 Networks telecast of 2016.

Hat tricks from Madison Berggren, Jamie Neushul and Anna Yelizarova propelled the Cardinal to an 11-goal victory over LMU. Berggren tallied her first career three-score game with goals in each of the first, second and third quarters while Neushul racked up her fourth of the season.

Stanford, up 4-2 after one, pulled away with a six-goal second quarter. Freshman Kat Klass, who scored a team-leading nine goals at the tournament, converted in a 6-on-5 to start things off. Neushul then scored on a skip shot at 6:25 and on Stanford's next possession Sophia Monaghan took a cross-pool pass from Gurpreet Sohi and sent it past Sky Flores.

Katie Dudley continued the run for the Cardinal when she took a feed from Sohi at 5:02 and skipped it in to the back of the cage. Berggren got inside water at 4:34 and lobbed it up, over and in and Shannon Cleary capped the 6-0 spurt when she beat everyone down the pool and skipped it in near post.

LMU would convert in a 6-on-5 with 21 seconds left in the first half and Stanford led 10-3 at the break.

The Cardinal again poured in six in the third quarter, including two each from Neushul and Yelizarova. Yelizarova launched from deep at 7:32 before Jordan Raney stole the ball and laid off for Julia Hermann, who pushed ahead to a streaking Neushul for the score.

Yelizarova showed off her speed minutes later when she beat everyone down the pool and took a pass from Hermann for the goal. With 5:40 left in the third Gurpreet Sohi was left all alone and railed it in near side off a pass from Raney. After Dani Jackovich drew an exclusion at 4:55, Neushul took advantage of the 6-on-5 to finish off Stanford's 5-0 run coming out of halftime.

The Cardinal would lead 16-5 after three and each team would score once in the fourth. Julia Hermann played three quarters in the cage for Stanford and made six saves. Yelizarova came on in the fourth and stopped one shot.

Stanford scored first against rival Cal early in the first quarter, but wasn't able to tally another goal for the next 23:27 in its defeat to the Golden Bears.

Dani Jackovich scored with 5:12 on the clock at the start to give Stanford a 1-0 lead. The junior got position in front and slipped her shot low, creeping it across to put the Cardinal on top.

Cal would respond with four unanswered, including two in 6-on-5 situations, to lead 4-1 midway through the fourth.

The Cardinal inched closer when Kat Klass cut in front of the cage and pushed across a pass from Jordan Raney up top with 5:03 left. The Bears were patient, whittling down the shot clock on their remaining possessions, and put the game out of reach when Genevieve Weed scored her second of the match with 1:21 to go.

Stephanie Mutafyan also had two goals for Cal while Carla Carrega tallied the other. Julia Hermann made six saves for Stanford.
