SAN FRANCISCO — The Pac-12 Conference office announced the softball weekly honors for play from Feb. 29-Mar. 6. WASHINGTON junior Ali Aguilar was named player of the week, OREGON’s Megan Kleist was tabbed pitcher of the week while ARIZONA rookie Taylor McQuillin was voted freshman of the week.

Aguilar (Orangevale, Calif.) led the No. 8 Huskies to an undefeated weekend at the Husky Classic, outscoring opponents, 43-4. Aguilar, who leads the nation with 39 RBI, headlined Washington’s offense with nine RBI and four home runs over the course of four games. The shortstop leads the team with 10 home runs and knocked out two against Montana while recording a team-high six RBI. This is Washington’s 92nd all time weekly nod.

Kleist (Appleton, Wisc.) continues to sport the best ERA on the team, now at 1.91 this season following a scoreless weekend. The freshman came on in relief in against Florida Atlantic and tossed three hitless and scoreless innings, allowing the Ducks to score three runs in the seventh inning for the comeback victory. The RHP started on Sunday against New Mexico State and tossed a four-hit shutout (five-inning game) with three strikeouts and no walks. Her WHIP over the weekend was a 0.50. This is Oregon’s 55th weekly Conference honor.

McQuillin (Mission Viejo, Calif.) went 2-1 with a 1.94 ERA in three appearances at the Wildcat Invitational. The freshman struck out 22 while walking just two batters and kept opponents to a .221 average, and posted a WHIP of 1.06 on the weekend. She went the distance in all three of her games, including a two-hit outing vs. UTEP on Saturday. Following victories over Mount St. Mary’s and UTEP, McQuillin limited No. 10 James Madison to just four runs with seven strikeouts, but could not get the support necessary for her first-career top-10 win. The freshman is 5-3 on the season with a 3.31 ERA and a 53/6 strikeout to walk ratio. This is Arizona’s 151st weekly accolade.

A player of the week has been selected every week since 1989, with the pitcher of the week honor dating back to 1992. This is the second season of freshman of the week honors.

This week Arizona hosts James Madison on a Wednesday matchup, then heads to Texas Arlington. Oregon heads to the Louisville Slugger Invitational in Stockton, Calif.. while the Huskies are off to Fresno State this weekend.
