Cats Drop Heartbreaker at No. 3 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif.– The No. 6 Arizona sand volleyball team picked up its first loss of the season Saturday morning to UCLA, 2-3. This was The Cats' first road loss of the 2016 season and now hold a 5-1 record.

The Cats got off to a strong start to the match, but fell short. Arizona's No. 4 team of Sara Pantovic and Mia Mason got the first loss of the match as they were defeated by Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver 22-20,21-15.

UA's No. 5 duo of Hailey Devlin and MacKenzie Kleespies picked up a win against UCLA's Reily Buechler and Karly Drolson as they took the match to three sets, 21-15,15-21,15-12.

At the No. 3 position, Olivia Macdonald and Sam Manley fell to the Bruins pair of Kamila Tan and Zana Muno. The duo won its first set, but fell short in the last two, 19-21, 21-19, 15-11.

Meanwhile, Wildcats' No.1 team of Madison and McKenna Witt worked hard as they defeated Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamarain 26-24, 21-16.

Arizona's No. 2 tandem of Jianna Bonomi and Kat Schulz suffered a loss against UCLA's Elise Zappia and Izzy Care in a three set rally 21-11,19-21,15-12.

The Sand Cats head back to the desert to prepare for their next match up against CSU Bakersfield Friday, March 25.
