Pac-12 Announces Tennis Players of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today that Mackenzie McDonald of UCLA was named Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and for the second time this season CALIFORNIA's Klara Fabikova was voted Women's Tennis Player of the Week for action during the week of March 21 - 27.

McDonald (Piedmont, Calif.) won both his Pac-12 matches in straight sets last week. The junior downed No. 94 Daan Maasland of Oregon, 6-3, 6-2. McDonald followed up that performance by knocking off No. 84 Mitch Stewart of Washington, 6-1, 6-2. The Bruins squad beat both No. 26 Oregon, 4-1, and No. 39 Washington, 4-0. This is McDonald's fifth-career weekly accolade and the 29th all-time for the Bruins.

Fabikova (Brno, Czech Republic) won twice in singles and won twice in doubles with Olivia Hauger as No. 1 California improved to 4-0 in the Pac-12 Conference (15-0 overall) with 7-0 routs of No. 65 Utah and Colorado last week. Against the Utes, the 11th-ranked Fabikova defeated Brianna Turley, 6-1, 6-1, on March 25 and the Cal senior defeated CU’s Jeannez Daniel, 6-2, 6-0, on March 26 at court-two singles in Berkeley. Fabikova and Hauger clinched the doubles point against Utah with a 6-3 victory over Sarah Richter and Alexia Petrovic, and one day later they blanked Colorado’s Annabelle Andrinpoulos and Kyra Wojcik, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles. Fabikova has earned four-career weekly accolades and the Golden Bears are now tied with USC for the most all-time weekly honors with 35.
