Pac-12 Announces Baseball Players of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Brett Cumberland of CALIFORNIA was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Travis Eckert of OREGON STATE was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the action during the week of March 28 - April 3.

Cumberland (Turlock, Calif.) was in great form this past week for the Bears as they went 4-0, knocking off San Francisco in a midweek game and sweeping UCLA in Berkeley this past week, to pick up their seventh consecutive win. Cumberland was 8-for-13 (.625) with three home runs and seven RBI over the course of the four games, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.308 and an on-base percentage of .647. Cumberland punctuated his week with an outstanding game on Sunday afternoon, going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four runs batted in to lift the Bears to a 5-3 win and the sweep. He raised his Pac-12 best batting average to .425 on the season, and he continues to pace the conference in multiple categories, including home runs (10), slugging percentage (.904) and on-base percentage (.552). This is Cumberland's first-career weekly accolade and the 49th all-time honor for the Golden Bears.

Eckert (Austin, Texas) made one start, moving into the Friday role for the Beavers, and posted a career-high nine strikeouts in just five innings in a 10-1 win over Washington. He held the Huskies to three hits and three walks in the win and posted two strikeouts in each of his first four innings and got help from his defense in the fifth inning when they turned a 5-4-3 double play. Eckert improved his record to 3-2 with the win. It is Eckert's first-career weekly honor and the 78th all-time for the Beavers.

The Golden Bears head to Eugene to take on Oregon in a three-game series while the Beavers will host Central Arkansas in a three-game series.
