PLEASANTON, Calif. – USC remains at the top of the leaderboard with a six-stroke lead over the competition through day two of the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championship at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif.
USC golfers shot a combined nine-under par on the second day as the Trojans continued to control the leaderboard. The Trojans are led by junior Gabriella Then who had the low round for the day.
“I actually did not know how well my team was doing, I just knew we could do better than yesterday,” Then said.
Then collected a round two low of 65 going 7-under for a total 70-65 (135). Her second-round performance helped her jump three places, passing ARIZONA’s Haley Moore for the top spot on the leaderboard.
“Today felt a lot like yesterday, just that a lot more putts fell in today,” said Then. “I was hitting my numbers today and overall solid shooting.”
Then’s 65-stroke performance beats her previous career low of 69 and places her just one stroke ahead of Alexis Keating from COLORADO. Then is on pace to hunt down the Pac-12 Championship individual record of 206, set in 2015.
“I enjoyed watching it that’s for sure,” said USC head coach Andrea Gaston on the Trojan’s performance. “I saw a lot of great shots where they were hitting their numbers, so they gave themselves some really good opportunities for birdies.”
Colorado’s Keating had an impressive second round, recording her season best as she posted a second-round score of six-under 66.
“This is what we’re all here to do is to try and win this thing,” Keating said. “It’s awesome that I am in contention and I’m just going to try and keep the same mindset that I’ve had the first two days.”
Keating currently sits in second place through day two, just one stroke behind the leader Then. Keating’s score marks the second consecutive day that a golfer has shot 6-under 66, as Arizona’s Haley Moore hit the score yesterday.
Moore, yesterday’s leader, shot par today to drop down to third on the individual leaderboard. Four golfers are tied for fourth to round out the top 5 individual players. Robynn Ree of USC, Lilia Vu of UCLA, Linnea Strom of ARIZONA and Tiffany Chan of USC each posted a total score of 139, four strokes out from Then for the individual Conference title.
The final round of the Pac-12 Championships will be Wednesday with first tee times at 8:30 a.m. PT.
