Six Pac-12 Tennis Teams In NCAA Championships Round of 16

SAN FRANCISCO - Six Pac-12 tennis teams, including two women’s and four men’s squads, advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships. The team championship resumes on May 19-24 and will be followed by the singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The University of Tulsa will serve as host.

On the women’s side, two teams remain in the hunt for Pac-12’s 22nd national title in women’s tennis. CALIFORNIA (21-1), the No. 1-overall seed and No. 15 seed STANFORD are the league's two representatives in the round of 16. The Golden Bears made it to the round of 16 without dropping a set in the first two rounds, sweeping both UT-Rio Grande Valley and UC Santa Barbara by a score of 4-0. They will face No. 16 seed Texas Tech (25-5) on Thursday, May 19 at 2 p.m. PT. The Cardinal swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christie, 4-0, in round one and then defeated Texas A&M, 4-3. It will face No. 2 Florida at 11 a.m. on May 19.

No. 3 seed UCLA, No. 10 seed USC, No. 13 seed CALIFORNIA and STANFORD are still vying for the Pac-12’s 55th national title in men’s tennis. The Bruins advanced to the round of 16 with a clean sweep of the first two rounds, beating both Weber State and San Diego, 4-0. The Cardinal knocked off Notre Dame, 4-1, then upset No. 14 seed Northwestern by a score of 4-3 to earn a spot in the round of 16. UCLA and Stanford will square off in the round of 16 on Friday, May 20, at 5 p.m. PT. The Golden Bears punched their ticket to the round of 16 with two 4-0 victories over Army West Point and Ole Miss. On May 20 at 7 a.m. PT, California will face No. 4 seed TCU. USC beat UNLV, 4-0 and Georgia Tech, 4-2, to advance to the round of 16. The Trojans will face No. 7 seed Georgia at 2 p.m. PT on May 20.
