NCAA Track and Field Regional Entries Announced

SAN FRANCISCO - On Thursday, the NCAA announced the accepted entries for the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminaries in Lawrence, Kan. on May 26-28. The top 48 athletes in each individual event and the top 24 relays qualify for the event in each region. From there, the top 12 finishers in each event (individual and relays) advance to the NCAA Championships on June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore. This list is not completely final; the deadline for medical scratches is on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.

The field for the decathlon and heptathlon that will compete at the NCAA Championships in Eugene was announced as well. The Pac-12 will be represented by five decathletes - Arizona, Stanford, Oregon (two) and Washington State - and two heptathletes - Arizona and Washington State.

On the women’s side in Lawrence, the Pac-12 combined to have 188 individual and relay entries, making up 20.6 percent of the 912 entries. Oregon has the most entries of all teams in the west regional with 32.

For the men, the Conference’s 10 teams combined to have 180 entries, making up 19.7 percent of the 912 entries. Oregon’s 26 entries is tops in the Pac and fourth among all teams.

Of the 10 individual women’s track events, the Pac-12 has at least four student-athletes currently ranked in the top 12 in eight events, including the two top times overall from Stanford’s Olivia Baker (2:01.02) in the 800 meters and Washington’s Anna Maxwell (4:12.62) in the 1,500 meters. Oregon has the top 4x100-meter relay in the field at 42.68, while USC has the No. 2 time in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:29.73. In the eight women’s field events, the Pac-12 has at least one student-athlete ranked in the top five in seven events.

On the men’s side, the Pac-12 has at least one student-athlete ranked in the top 12 of 16 of the 18 individual events. The men account for the top overall mark in three track events: Izaic Yorks of Washington in the 1,500-meter race at 3:37.74, Stanford’s Sean McGorty in the 5K at 13:24.25, and Devon Allen of Oregon in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.32. UCLA’s duo of Nicholas Scarvelis (67-7.5/20.61m) and Braheme Days (66-3.75/20.21m) has the top two marks in the shot put field.
