Roundup: Former Arizona basketball great Sean Rooks passes away
Former Arizona basketball great and 12-year NBA veteran Sean Rooks died Tuesday at the age of 46, collapsing at a Philadelphia restaurant after returning from New York to interview for an assistant gig with the Knicks. Rooks played at Arizona from 1988-92 and was drafted 30th overall in the 1992 NBA Draft.
Thuc Nhi Nguyen of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that UCLA football coach Jim Mora has agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2021 season. Mora is 37-16 in four years at the helm in Westwood.
Along those lines, Oregon State men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle signed a two-year contract extension through the 2021-22 season. Tinkle has led the Beavs to a 36-27 record and an NCAA tournament appearance in his first two seasons.
Stanford senior Krista Hardebeck was named Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday. Hardebeck rocks a 3.80 GPA with a double major in political science and psychology and was a member of two NCAA title teams during her time at Stanford. And what have you done with your life?
Similarly, USC senior Max de Vroome was named Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He graduated with a 3.58 GPA in business administration and won an NCAA title. Not too shabby.
