Roundup: Where will Washington be slotted in the first CFP rankings?

Nov 1, 2016

The first College Football Playoff rankings come out Tuesday night, and Ted Miller discusses Washington’s College Football Playoff potential. Basically, the Huskies are in if they win out.

Andrew Greif dives into the performance that got Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. It was a pretty good performance, to say the least.

Tom FitzGerald notes that while it wasn’t perfect, first-time starting quarterback Keller Chryst and the Stanford offense got the job done in the 34-10 win at Arizona. It’s the first time all season the Cardinal has put up 30-plus points in a game.

With Cal having a Marshawn Lynch bobblehead giveaway night against Washington this Saturday, Ted Miller reminisces about Lynch’s injury-cart ride after scoring the winning touchdown against Washington in 2006 in oral-history format from numerous players and coaches. Good backstory behind it.

Chantel Jennings features Colorado running back Phillip Lindsay, whom she calls an “old soul.” He’s all about that Rick James, not so much about that Drake.

Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen said penalties were a big issue in the Beavers’ loss to Washington State. The Beavs were flagged 13 times for 110 yards in the 35-31 defeat.

Adoree’ Jackson is glad to be fielding punts for USC, notes Joey Kaufman of The Orange County Register. Opposing punters haven’t gotten the memo to kick it away from No. 2 in cardinal and gold yet, apparently.

Needing to win three of its last four games to achieve bowl eligibility, UCLA football is trying to go 1-0 each week, writes Thuc Nhi Nguyen. It’s perhaps my favorite football cliché.

Jacob Thorpe gives us a first look at Washington State’s upcoming game against Arizona. The Cougs can secure a second straight winning season by besting the winless-in-conference Wildcats.

Jon Gold of the Arizona Daily Star writes that head coach Bobby Hurley has Arizona State men’s basketball going in the right direction.

Steve Mims of The Register-Guard gives us this piece on the new-look Utah men’s basketball team. The Utes, picked to finish eighth in the Pac-12, have to replace the production of Jordan Loveridge, Brandon Taylor, Dakarai Tucker and, most importantly, Jakob Poeltl.

Learn about the players on the 2016-17 Arizona men’s basketball team thanks to the folks at the Arizona Daily Star, in slideshow form.
