2017 National Signing Day: Mike Leach yearns to travel to Iceland with Yogi Roth

Feb 1, 2017

National Signing Day is the time for most college coaches across the country to boast about their recruiting classes. This guy fills a need. That guy fits our system. He’s a work in progress but can be an impact player because you can’t coach speed. The phrases have become so redundant there’s even a National Signing Day bingo card full of them:

But Mike Leach is not most college coaches. He always seems to be more interested in talking about anything other than football, and his time on our “Inside Pac-12 Football: Signing Day Special” show went about just as expected – you didn’t know what to expect.

Leach spent a large chunk of his air time talking about taking a trip with Yogi Roth to Iceland, spurred in part because one of Leach's recruits – offensive lineman Alec Kuzmack – is of Icelandic heritage (his mom is from Iceland). Instead talking about building a fence around the state of Washington and not being worried about the recruiting rankings, Leach’s idea of a good time on camera was pontificating about riding through Iceland on donkeys with Roth.

Watch the video to get more of Leach’s travel thoughts, which includes him trying to put together an opinion on Australia (cut him some slack; he hasn't been there yet).
