Pac-12 announces baseball players of the week

ARIZONA'S NICK QUINTANA NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
OREGON STATE'S LUKE HEIMLICH TABBED PITCHER OF THE WEEK

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Nick Quintana of ARIZONA was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Luke Heimlich of OREGON STATE was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the action during the week of Feb. 13-20.

Quintana (Las Vegas, Nev.) became the first Arizona freshman since 2003 (Trevor Crowe) to have a five-hit game in an opening series of a season and had at least one hit in all three games. He also drew three walks the game after having five hits. Arizona went 3-0 on their season-opening series again Eastern Kentucky. The freshman totaled six RBI and five runs on seven hits in the three game series. This is the freshman’s first weekly honor and Arizona’s 65th all-time for the award.

Heimlich (Puyallup, Wash.) struck out a career-best 11 in 5 2/3 innings after getting the opening day start against Indiana. He scattered four hits and did not allow a run. Heimlich extended his scoreless-innings streak to 14 2/3 innings dating back to the 2016 season. This is Oregon State’s 81st time claiming the honor and Heimlich’s second all-time honor. The juniors first weekly honor came as the last honor of the 2017 season on May 30.
