UCLA and USC to meet in Final of Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Championship

OJAI, Calif. - The final of the 2017 Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship is decided after No. 1 seed UCLA and No. 3 seed USC earned semifinal victories.

No. 1 seed UCLA beat No. 5 seed Stanford to earn a spot in Saturday's final at 6 p.m. PT. The doubles point came down to the wire with court No. 3 making the final decision. UCLA's Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu won on court No. 1 by a score of 6-2. Stanford’s David Wilczynski and Brandon Sutter were able to combat with a win on count No. 3, 6-3. Stanford’s Sameer Kumar and Michael Gender battled UCLA’s Autin Rapp and Joseph Di Guilio on court No. 2, but UCLA ultimately clinched the point. UCLA’s Evan Zhu set the stage for the Bruins in the singles with a win on court No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. Logan Staggs followed his teammate with a win on court No. 4, 6-3, 6-4. Maxime Cressy had the clinching point for the Bruins on court No. 6, 6-0, 6-3, ending in a win by UCLA, 4-0.

No. 3 seed USC upset No. 2 seed California by a score of 4-1. USC took the doubles point after California’s Andre Goransson and Billy Griffith won the first match on court No. 2, 6-2. USC’s Brandon Holt and Riley Smith took the next point on court No. 1, 6-3, followed by Rob Bellamy and Jack Jaede on court No. 3, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point. Smith set the tone for the Trojans in the singles matches with a win on court No. 6, 6-3, 6-1. Jaede followed with a win on court No. 4, 6-4, 6-1. California’s Filip Bergevi came back with a win on court No. 3, 6-4, 6-2, but Nick Crystal clinched the win for the trojans on court No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. The Trojans will face UCLA in the championship match Saturday at 6 p.m. PT.
