NCAA Women's Golf Championship regionals: UCLA's Lilia Vu, Arizona State at forefront after round one

Lubbock, Texas Regional

Arizona State

The Sun Devils lead the pack at 1-under after day one at The Rawls Course (par 72) in Lubbock. Monica Vaughn finished the front nine with a sharp 2-under, but fell back even after bogeying twice on the back nine. She climbed back with a birdie on the final hole to finish with a team-leading 1-under to finish the first round. Her teammates Linnea Strom and Olivia Mehaffey finished 2-over to keep the Sun Devils at the top. 


The Ducks sit just behind the Sun Devils thanks to Cathleen Santoso's astounding round. Santoso birdied six times and holds the second-best score among all individuals with a 3-under. Her teammate Kathleen Scavo finished 2-over and Petra Salko 3-over to pace the Ducks. 


The reigning Pac-12 Champs completed round one tied for third place with Texas Tech -- three shots behind the Sun Devils. Lilia Vu carried her hot streak into the NCAA champs, leading all individuals with a 4-under score after round one. Vu birdied four times on the front nine and three times on the back. 

Oregon State

The Beavs sit in 13th place after the first round, paced by Olivia Benzin's strong round. Benzin birdied on the 17th hold and finished the round with a 4-over score. Teammates Susie Cavanagh and Hannah Swanson also finished 4-over.

Washington State

Alivia Brown represents the Cougs as an individual competitor in Lubbock. Brown finished the first round at 4-over. She double-bogeyed on the eighth hole, but birdied three times.


Albuquerque, New Mexico Regional 


The Cardinal lost their lead midway through the back nine, but finished the first round at the UNM Championship Course (par 72) with a second place standing. They are three shots behind Pepperdine. Albane Valenzuela finished the front nine even, then birdied on the 16th hole to maintain a team-best 1-under score in this first round. Shannon Aubert birdied three times and finished the front nine with a strong 4-under, but slipped back to even after bogeying twice and double-bogeying twice on the back nine. 


The Trojans sit five strokes behind the Cardinal, tied for third with Cal and Washington. Victoria Morgan birdied five times and finished the round even. 


Maria Herraez Galvez and Marthe Wold finished with a par score at the end of round one to keep the Bears tied for third with the Trojans.


The reigning NCAA champs are in a three-way tie with their fellow Pac-12-ers after Julianne Alvarez and Sarah Rhee finished with a par score.


Athens, Georgia Regional


The lone Pac-12 representative at the Athens Regional finished day one in seventh place with a 10-over overall score. Michigan State leads the pack with a 4-under score. Krystal Quihuis tallied three birdies and finished the first day with a team-best 1-under round. Gigi Stoll was golfing 2-under through the first 14 holes, but bogeyed three of the last four to finish the round at 1-over.

Columbus, Ohio Regional


The Buffs finished round one in tenth place in the Columbus Regional. Robyn Choi leads her team with a 3-over (par 72) score -- she recorded three birdies on the day.
