Roundup: Oregon State baseball on to Super Regionals

Oregon State

Top-seeded Oregon State baseball is headed to the NCAA Super Regionals after an 8-1 win over Yale Sunday night. The Beavs will host a Super Regional against either Clemson or Vanderbilt this coming weekend.


Stanford baseball coach Mark Marquess coached his final game Saturday night, as the Cardinal was eliminated in the regional round by Cal State Fullerton. Marquess coached 2,512 games over the course of 41 seasons at the helm on The Farm, leading the Cardinal to two College World Series titles.


Arizona baseball’s season came to an end after a 9-3 loss to Sam Houston State, a team the Wildcats eliminated from the 2016 postseason. Michael Lev has the game story for the Arizona Daily Star.


Oregon softball lost to Oklahoma 4-2 in the Women’s College World Series semifinals, leaving the Ducks with a 54-8 record to show for their 2017 efforts.


Earlier in the day, Washington lost to Florida 5-2 in WCWS semis. No national title for the Pac-12 in softball, but at least three teams made the WCWS and two made the semifinals.


The other softball team to make the WCWS from the Pac-12 was UCLA, and Bruins assistant coach Lisa Fernandez was suspended two games for bumping an umpire while arguing a call at home plate (espnW). She served one game of the suspension while watching the Bruins’ season-ending 1-0 loss to Washington from the stands.


USC men’s water polo goalkeeper McQuin Baron won the Cutino Award, which goes to the best player in college water polo. Princeton and Team USA goalie Ashleigh Johnson won the Cutino Award on the women’s side, making her the first person from a non-California school to win the award.


Utah softball is hoping to become a consistent contender on the national front after a hosting a Regional and earning a trip to the Super Regionals. Kyle Goon has more.

Washington State

Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that Klay Thompson got his shooting touch back in the Golden State Warriors’ 132-113 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Thompson scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, hitting 4 of 7 from downtown after going 6 of 29 in his last two games.


Brian Howell features Colorado runner Dani Jones, who is hoping to improve upon her ninth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Track and Field Championships in the 1,500 meters.
