Roundup: Bryce Love leads the way in Stanford's blowout win Down Under

Aug 28, 2017

Stanford

Christian who? (just kidding) – new starting running back Bryce Love led Stanford to a 62-7 win over Rice, rushing for 180 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He had a 62-yard run on the first play from scrimmage – so even excluding that run, he averaged just about 10 yards per carry on his final 12 carries. Sometimes it’s one big run that makes for a good yards-per-carry average, but that wasn’t the case for Love against Rice.

Colorado

“New season, same goal” is the headline of Brian Howell’s article on a 2017 Colorado football preview. Can the Buffs continue their rise as a prominent program in the Pac-12?

USC

Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports predicts that USC will go to the College Football Playoff in his acclaimed Forde Yard Dash. He also has Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma State in the Final Four.

Oregon State

Well if this wasn’t fitting… Oregon State immediately fumbled after using a Crying Jordan play-call sign in Saturday’s disappointing 58-27 loss to Colorado State. Now, the Rams were opening a new on-campus stadium and they aren’t that far removed from a 10-win season, but still, you don’t want to lose by 31 to a Mountain West school.

Oregon

Andrew Greif writes that Oregon football enters the Willie Taggart era with “fresh confidence,” to borrow from his headline. A lot of talk about what went wrong in 2016 and what the Ducks are doing to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

Arizona

Michael Lev has five personnel questions for Arizona football as the Wildcats get ready for their 2017 opener against Northern Arizona.

Washington State

Theo Lawson pens this piece on Washington State backup quarterback Tyler Hilinski and how his football role model is right tackle Cole Madison.

UCLA

UCLA women’s soccer defeated UCSB 3-1 on Sunday, improving to 4-0 on the season. Check out the recap from our very own Jim Watson and Krista Blunk to see some highlights.

Utah

Now this is how you score a goal – Utah women’s soccer midfielder Paola Van Der Veen’s volley is the Opus Bank #12Best Play of the Week. This came during the Utes’ 4-1 season-opening win over South Dakota State on Aug. 20. Good start for the Utes, who are now 3-0 after blasting away North Dakota State 9-0 on Sunday (Hailey Skolmoski’s four goals in that win matched a school record).

Arizona State

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict might face a five-game suspension for an illegal hit in an Aug. 19 preseason game on Kansas City’s Anthony Sherman (Yahoo Sports, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first to report). Suffice to say this wouldn’t be the first time the former Sun Devil would be suspended, if the suspension is carried out, for a hard hit on the gridiron.

Washington

After injuring himself in Summer League, Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz says he will be ready for the start of training camp (CSN Philly).

California

ESPN ranks Aaron Rodgers second in its list of the top 100 players in the NFL. The former Golden Bear trails only Tom Brady.
