Roundup: Lindsay Gottlieb notches 200th career win

Congrats to Cal women’s basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb for picking up her 200th career victory in the Golden Bears’ 89-64 win over USD Thursday night. Gottlieb has long been a friend of the Roundup dating back to the “In the Paint” days, so big ups to Coach G.

Stanford running back Bryce Love won the Doak Walker Award (best RB in the nation), it was announced at the College Football Hall of Fame on Thursday. He is the second Cardinal running back to win the award, following shoulda-been Heisman winner Toby Gerhart in 2009.

Also taking home hardware Thursday night at the ESPN College Football Awards Show was Utah kicker Matt Gay, who won the Lou Groza Award (top kicker in college football).

Pac-12 Networks' Yogi Roth breaks down the top five wildest plays of the 2017 Pac-12 football season. Chief among those plays was running back Charles Nelson's touchdown pass to tight end Jacob Breeland. Not a bad toss from ol' No. 6.

LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball signed with an agent (Harrison Gaines, Lozno’s agent), ending any chance the two have to play collegiately, according to Jeff Goodman. The plan is for the two of them to play on the same team overseas. Best of luck to the Big Ballers, but that’s gonna a tough deal to swing – a lot of leagues overseas have limits on how many imports teams can have, and I’m sure teams would be more comfortable taking a proven 25 year-old than a high school junior and another guy who didn’t play a second of college basketball.

Theo Lawson lets us know that Washington State defensive lineman Hercules Mata’afa and offensive lineman Cody O’Connell were named Walter Camp first-team All-Americans on Thursday.

One of five Pac-12 women’s volleyball teams alive in the NCAA Round of 16, USC plays Minnesota in a regional semifinal Friday in Gainesville, Fla. Winner gets the winner of UCLA-Florida.

Pat Rooney features Colorado volleyball’s Alexa Smith as the Buffs get ready to face Nebraska Friday afternoon in Lexington, Ky., in the Sweet 16 (noon MT/11 a.m. PT). Smith, a Colorado native, transferred to the Buffs from Purdue.

Former Washington and U.S. women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo will run for the U.S. Soccer president opening, she announced on Facebook Thursday. The election will take place Feb. 10.

Good news for Arizona men’s basketball, as Rawle Alkins is likely to make his season debut Saturday against Alabama, reports Bruce Pascoe. Alkins broke his foot at the end of September.

Oregon State men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle is happy that Mike Riley is returning to the OSU football program as an assistant coach, telling The Oregonian/OregonLive that it’s “an incredible hire.”
