Pac-12 announces Tennis Players of the Week

Pac-12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week: Tom Fawcett, Sr., STANFORD

Fawcett defeated a pair of top-25 opponents at the No. 1 singles position and won all three of his doubles matches to help No. 1 Stanford collect three team wins over top-25 ranked opponents.

•Guided Stanford to its first sweep of the Southern California schools for only the second time in the last nine years, besting No. 5 UCLA, 6-1, and No. 6 USC, 4-3.

The returning Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year opened the week with a victory over Tulane’s No. 21-ranked Constantin Schmitz (6-3, 7-4) and joined teammate Axel Geller for a 6-0 doubles victory, en route to a win over No. 22 Tulane (4-1) as Stanford earns a berth in the ITA National Indoor Championships for the first time since 2012.

On Friday, Fawcett topped USC’s No.13-ranked Brandon Holt (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) providing the clinching win at No. 1 singles and then came back from a 5-1 deficit with Geller to earn a 7-5 doubles win. Fawcett almost walked away with a perfect weekend, just falling short to UCLA’s No. 1-ranked Martin Redlicki, 6-0, 7-6 (6) before collecting his third doubles win of the week 7-6 (6).

The Winnetka, Ill., native earns his first career Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award and Stanford’s 15th all-time weekly nod.

Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week: Talya Zandberg. Fr., ARIZONA

Zandberg collected four singles wins and tacked on three doubles victories to help Arizona extend its undefeated team record to 5-0, beating Northern Arizona (7-0), Boise State (4-0) and Grand Canyon University (4-0).

The freshman from Israel is in her first semester at Arizona and is undefeated (5-0) in singles, last week defeating Northern Arizona’s Ellie Millard on Court 3, 6-1, 7-6.

Added three-straight wins besting Hanna Kantenwein, Boise State (6-3, 6-3), Maggie O'Meara, Gemma Garcia, San Diego (6-1, 1-6, 6-1) and Valentina Mokrova, Grand Canyon (6-1, 6-3).

Teamed up with Mary Lewis to capture a 6-2 doubles win vs. Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona (7-5), and Boise State (6-3). The pair came up short against San Diego, 6-1.

Earns first career Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor and 10th all-time for Arizona
