NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship: Colorado edges Jacksonville for first postseason win; Stanford falls to Virginia

Both Pac-12 teams that earned berths to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship were in action Friday during the opening round of action. Here's how the two programs fared.

Colorado

Colorado 23, Jacksonville 18

The Buffs put the pressure on Jacksonville during their first-round matchup in Gainsville, Florida and it paid off as Colorado collected its first-ever NCAA postseason win.

Darby Kiernan exploded for seven goals for CU, tying the school record while breaking her own career-best mark for points with 12. After the Dolphins made it close at 18-15 with 18:39 remaining, the Buffs poured in five consecutive goals to retake the momentum. Colorado also outshot Jacksonville, 46-37.

The Pac-12 regular-season champions advance through to the second round where they'll meet No. 6 seed Florida. The game will begin at 9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT on Sunday.

Jen Mistretta and Miranda Stinson each added four goals for CU, which fell to Florida by a 16-9 final during the second game of the 2018 season.

Stanford

Virginia 11, Stanford 3

The Cardinal was bounced from the first round Friday after earning an NCAA appearance for the first time since 2016. 

Virginia took the early lead, scoring four goals in the first half for a 4-0 lead into intermission. Stanford goalie Ali DaCar had impressive first half, notching five saves. 

Stanford got on the board during the opening minutes of the second half to make it 5-1. But Virginia didn't let off the gas, outscoring the Cardinal 8-3 after halftime. Stanford finishes the season 15-5.
