Roundup: Postseason advancement in tennis, softball and golf

A ton of NCAA championships stuff to get to, so let’s start with the sport that is most advanced in the postseason: tennis. On the women’s side, 15th-seeded Stanford defeated third-seeded Duke 4-2 to advance to the NCAA finals, where it will take on Vanderbilt on Tuesday.

In the men’s bracket, UCLA squeezed past USC 4-3 to get to the NCAA semifinals. The Bruins face Ohio State on Monday at 11 a.m. PT.

Five Pac-12 teams made it to the NCAA Softball Super Regionals, and Arizona State got to the Super Regional round by blanking Ole Miss 9-0 in five innings in the Tempe Regional final. Meanwhile, Arizona defeated Ole Miss 4-3 on Sunday to advance to the Super Regionals. The Wildcats will take on UCLA in the Super Regionals for the right to go to Oklahoma City.

Oregon State softball put up a strong fight over the weekend, winning two games Satuday before falling losing to Alabama in the Tuscaloosa Regional final by a 6-0 final (The Oregonian/OregonLive).

The NCAA Women’s Golf Championships field has been downsized from 24 teams to 15, and USC is in fifth heading into the final round of stroke play. The eight lowest-scoring teams after Monday’s round advance to the match-play portion of the event to determine the NCAA champion.

Washington women’s golf also made the top-15 cut, entering Monday’s round in 14th at 38-over.

While the Buffs were not one of the five Pac-12 teams to make Monday’s cut, Colorado golfer Robyn Choi advanced to Monday’s round as one of the lowest nine individuals not on a top-15 team. Choi entered Monday tied for 24th at 4-over.

Cal rugby lost in the National College 7s final to Lindenwood by a 26-12 margin after blowing past Arkansas 38-7 in the quarterfinals and beating Kutztown 31-15 in the semis.

Former Oregon golfer Aaron Wise earned his first PGA Tour victory by winning the AT&T Byron Nelson, setting a tournament record by scoring 23 under after waiting through a four-hour rain delay (AP).

Former Utah men’s basketball forward Chris Seeley is transferring to Fresno State, he announced Friday night (The Salt Lake Tribune).
