The Trojans had to cut the scrimmage short due to a lack of healthy offensive tackles.
  • Here is the injury report, per head coach Clay Helton: DL Caleb Tremblay (ankle), LB Levi Jones (hand), and RT Chuma Edoga (nagging hip) were all pulled from the scrimmage.

  • The defense controlled the scrimmage by keeping everything in front of them and then making clean tackles in the open field. "The amount of tackling that we have done in this camp is really paying off," Helton said. "We had given up a bunch of explosive plays in the first scrimmage and that was limited a lot more today."

  • LB Levi Jones, who has had a stop-start camp due to multiple injury issues, forced his way onto the field today and made an impression on Helton by cutting down RB Stephen Carr twice in the open field. Jones "felt like he played fast today," Helton said.

  • Freshman WR Devon Williams was able to shake free and make a couple big plays on the offense's lone TD drive (out of six series). Helton singled out Williams as a young player who "took a stride forward" today.

  • As for the quarterbacks, Helton was pleased with the "sense of urgency to either get rid of the ball or break contain and be able to keep the ball alive" after they took so many sacks in the first scrimmage, but he would have liked to have seen more explosive plays.

  • The head coach is going to evaluate this tape, but he likely will not make a decision on the quarterback until after next Saturday's mock game.

  • The kicking competition is heating up as Michael Brown is pushing the incumbent, Chase McGrath, after rehabbing from last season's knee injury. Both kickers drilled some long distance kicks today.

  • Freshman WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is vying for punt return duties with CB Ajene Harris and WR Tyler Vaughns. "He's definitely in the mix," Helton said.

  • The scrimmage was supposed to end with each quarterback getting a two-minute drive but Helton pushed the period into next week. "It wasn't going to be a good simulation" because of so many injured offensive linemen, he explained.

  • The Trojans are off Sunday before Mock Game Week begins on Monday. Fall Camp is officially over.
