Stefan Flintoft Named Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week

September 19, 2018 | Football

Augusta, GA - The Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award announced on Wednesday that Stefan Flintoft was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for Week 3 games.

Flintoft punted 6 times during UCLA's contest against Fresno State for a 48.83 net yard average. Flintoft's net average actually was more than his gross (48.5) due to a negative return by Fresno State. It was the only one of his six punts to be returned by the Bulldogs as Fresno State called for a fair catch on three kicks, one went out of bounds and one was downed at the six yard-line. In all, two of his punts were marked inside the 20-yard line, two traveled 50+ yards and his long punt for the game was a career-best 70-yarder. UCLA recovered Fresno's fumble of one third quarter punt to help set up the touchdown drive which narrowed the Bulldogs' lead to 16-14.

Flintoft's season average of 45.6 yards per punt would be a career-high mark and it currently leads the Pac-12 Conference and is the 12th-best mark in the NCAA. UCLA will return to action next Friday night, Sept. 28, in the Pac-12 opener at Colorado (6 p.m. PT). The Bruins return to the Rose Bowl the following week to host No. 10 Washington in the conference home opener on Oct. 6 (kickoff time to be determined).
