FORT WORTH, Texas – The Sun Devil All-American duo of
Lauryn John-Baptiste and
Ilze Hattingh starred as three ASU doubles pairings won their first matches of the fall season at the Big Five Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, Thursday.
No. 8 John-Baptiste/Hattingh defeated Kansas State's pairing of Decker/Linares, 6-2 to pick up their first win since the Sweet Sixteen back in May.
Making their Sun Devil debut as a duo, No. 50 Slaysman/Jankowski earned a 6-2 win as well over Turco/Mesquita of K-State. The win marked true freshman Jankowski's first appearance in maroon and gold.
The third and final matchup of the day saw another new pairing with
Sammi Hampton and
Tereza Kolarova teaming up to defeat the Wildcat tandem of Maffei/Gheorghita, 6-1.
ASU gets back on the courts at the Friedman Tennis center tomorrow morning as the women play in singles matches against women from Georgia.
