AP Top 25: Washington, Oregon and Colorado jump up; Stanford drops out

Oct 7, 2018

Washington moved up to No. 7 to lead the way for three Pac-12 teams in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. No. 17 Oregon and No. 19 Colorado round out the Pac-12 teams in the top 25, with Stanford dropping out of the rankings and joining Washington State and Utah in the "others receiving votes" column.

Washington

It wasn’t the prettiest game of the season for the Huskies, but Washington picked up the conference road victory over winless UCLA by a 31-24 count to get to 5-1 on the season. Thanks to losses in the top 10 by LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn, the Dawgs were able to jump up three spots to No. 7 in the latest poll, making the Dawgs the highest-ranked one-loss team in the nation. Myles Gaskin did his usual damage on the ground, but how about quarterback Jake Browning picking up 49 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in addition to his 265 passing yards and a score through the air? Up next for the Huskies is a pivotal conference game in Eugene against rival Oregon, and the Ducks will be coming into that one rested. Can the Huskies survive the upset bid of the Ducks to remain in the driver’s seat in the Pac-12 North?

Oregon

No game for the Ducks this week, but they still moved up one spot to No. 17 heading into their monster of a game against Washington at Autzen Stadium. Think the fans in Eugene will be just a little pumped up for that one?

Colorado

Raise your hand if you had the Buffaloes as the last undefeated team in the Pac-12, and keep your hand raised if you thought the Buffs would get out to a 5-0 start and have sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 South heading into the second weekend of October. That’s exactly what Colorado accomplished by defeating Arizona State 28-21 in Boulder Saturday afternoon, getting their first win of the season against a team with a winning record at the time of the game. The Laviska Shenault Jr. bandwagon only got more crowded after a four-touchdown performance against Arizona State, as the nation’s leading receiver had 127 yards on 13 grabs. The Buffs, moving up two spots to No. 19 and 5-0 for the first time in 20 years, will now get ready for a date in the Coliseum against a USC team coming off a bye. Win down in Los Angeles, and the Buffs will really be in control of the South (not to mention becoming bowl eligible for the second time in three seasons).
