SEATTLE – The 14th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (15-5, 7-2 Pac-12) won its third straight match on a 3-1 result (24-26, 25-22, 28-26, 25-18) over No. 19 Washington (13-6, 5-4) at Alaska Airlines Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Women of Troy snapped a long drought to earn the team's first win over the Huskies in Seattle since 2011.
KEY PLAYERS
- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier led the Trojans with 22 kills (5e, 55att) as she hit .309 and registered her seventh double-double of the season (32nd career) with 13 digs. Lanier also had two blocks including the first solo block of her career and a service ace.
- So. OH Brooke Botkin topped all players with 25.5 points as she notched 21 kills (7e, 52att, .240) to go with 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Botkin had a career-high six blocks (one solo) and served one of five USC aces.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro put up 48 assists and had eight digs, six blocks, and three kills.
- Jr. OPP Emily Baptista posted eight kills (2e, 25att, .240) with one block.
- Defensively, Sr. MB Madison Murtagh had a career-high nine blocks (one solo) and Sr. libero Victoria Garrick led with 23 digs.
- Fr. setter Ashley Humphreys saw her first collegiate action and served two aces and had two digs.
- For the Huskies, Kara Bajema topped all players with 23 kills and notched a double-double with 11 digs. Samantha Drechsel had 17 kills. Ella May Powell dished out 42 assists and had a team-high 22 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC posted a season-high 16.0 blocks and held the Huskies to a .150 hitting percentage (56k, 32e, 160att). The Trojans finished the night with a .265 attack percentage (59k, 18e, 155att). USC hit .424 in the third with 18 kills (4e, 33att).
- The Women of Troy had a 24-23 lead in the first set, but gave up the final three points to Washington, who won, 26-24. The Huskies walked out to a big 11-3 lead in the second set, but the Trojans never gave up and fought back to claim a 25-22 win.
- Into the third, the teams ran through 13 ties and saw the lead change nine times before USC prevailed with a 28-26 win for a 2-1 lead in the match. Lanier collected seven of her kills without error in the third frame. The Trojans had five blocks.
- Six blocks in the final set helped USC hold UW to a .056 hitting rate (11k, 9e, 36att). The Trojans earned sideout at a 73-percent rate and got six kills from Botkin and five more from Lanier to close out a 25-18 win on an 8-2 run.

- USC heads east into the Palouse where it will face No. 23 Washington State (13-5, 4-4 Pac-12) on Friday (Oct. 19) at 8 p.m. PT in Bohler Gym in Pullman, Wash. The match will be shown live on Pac-12 Network (National, Los Angeles, and Washington).
MATCH NOTES
- USC improves to 41-27 all-time against Washington and earns its first victory over the Huskies in Seattle since 2011. The Trojans also improve to 3-3 in their last six meetings with the Huskies (since 2015).
- The Women of Troy collected their third straight win and improved to 8-4 against ranked opponents this season.
- USC improved to 39-29 in matches played in the state of Washington.
