Cougars Compete at University of Idaho Saturday

Washington State swimming travels across the border to Moscow, Idaho to compete
against the Vandals from the University of Idaho Saturday, Oct. 20. The meet is set to
begin at 10:30 a.m.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Saturday marks the 26th all-time meeting between Washington State and the
University of Idaho, as WSU holds a 19-7 advantage in the series. The Cougars are
looking to extend their win streak after defeating the Vandals in the UI Swim Center
152-142 in the 2013-14 season.

"We are very excited to be racing the Vandals again. It hasn't been on our schedule
for a few years, and I am excited to bring it back. We have been working very hard
in the pool and weight room, so we will see where we are at this Saturday at Idaho.
There is a buzz on campus for this weekend, and we will be focused on our meet as
we try to take one step closer to becoming a dynamic and fun program. See you at the
University of Idaho, safe travels, and go Cougs!"

LAST TIME IN THE POOL
The Cougars fell to reigning back-to-back national champions Stanford, and reigning
Mountain West Conference champions Boise State. Nine Cougars set season-best
times in their respective events against No. 1 Stanford, while nine also recorded top three
finishes in their individual events. Sophomore Taylor McCoy led the way for the
Cougars, garnering 10 individual points with a second place finish in the 200 back
and third place finishes in the 100 back and 400 IM. McCoy, along with teammates
Mackenzie Duarte, Sophia Balmaceda, and Payton Bokowy, notched a fourth place
finish in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Keiana Fountaine continued her success in
the pool against Stanford with a second place finish in the 100 free, third in the 100 fly,
and fourth in the 200 free. Fountaine made a splash against Boise State winning the
200 free, placing second in the 50 free, and third in the 100 free. Fountaine swam the
opening leg of the first place 200 free relay. McCoy and junior Ryan Falk also made an
impact on the meet garnering 15 and eight points, respectively. McCoy won the 400
IM, placed second in the 200 back, and fifth in the 100 back. Falk recorded two second
place finishes in the 1000 and 500 free.

EIGHT COUGARS JOIN THE ROSTER
Eight freshmen begin their rookie campaigns with the Cougars. The class is comprised
of Sophia Balmaceda (Fremont, Calif.), Emily Barrier (Fort Collins, Colo.), Payton
Bokowy (Sandpoint, Idaho), Lauren Burckel (Albuquerque, N.M.), Keiana Fountaine
(Tracy, Calif.), Paige Gardner (Walla Walla, Wash.), Hailey Hyde (Bend, ore.), and Olivia
Tungate (Oak Harbor, Wash.).

COMING UP
The Cougars will welcome Northern Arizona to Gibb Pool Friday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.,
and No. 2 California Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. Both meets will be streamed live on
wsucougars.com.
