STANFORD, Calif. – The 12th ranked University of Washington women's golf team sits tied for 11th after day one of the annual Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice at Stanford Golf Course. The Dawgs posted a 12-over 296 following 18 holes and were led by senior Julianne Alvarez who is tied for 20th with a 1-over par 72.

"We got off to a rough start this morning and just played without the energy we needed to begin the day," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "I was very proud of them for rebounding after being 11-over after six holes. Julianne and Sarah (Rhee) especially finding ways to close out their first round. I was also glad Martha (Lewis) got a chance for her first go in the starting lineup and really had a great attitude all day. I hope we are going to be stronger out of the gate tomorrow and we'll see what happens."

Alvarez had a shaky run through her first six holes putting herself at 3-under following hole six. She quickly responded with a birdie on the par-5 seventh and finished the day blemish free while adding another birdie on hole 12. Her 1-over 72 is five strokes off the lead of 4-under 67.

Following her just one stroke back was Rhee who sits tied for 29th at 2-over 73. Her round also started off a little off with her making errors on three of her first nine holes to put her at 4-over but followed that by going 2-under en route to her 2-over final first round score. She totaled 13 pars on the day to go along with her two birdies.

Senior Wenyung Keh sits tied for 40th after Friday's round as she posted a 3-over 74. She knocked in two birdies on the back nine and only had blemishes on four holes on the day. Freshman Martha Lewis, competing for the first time in the lineup for UW carded a six-over 77 in a round that featured 12 pars to place her tied for 68th. Rounding out the UW crew was junior Alice Duan who is tied for 71st at 7-over 78.

Washington continues play at the three-day tournament, which features six top 25 teams, on Saturday, teeing off at 11:10 a.m. The Dawgs will be paired with Northwestern and Iowa State.
