Seniors, Sanchez Shine in 6-0 Senior Day Win over Oregon State

LOS ANGELES - Senior Day could not have been scripted much better for UCLA seniors Hailie Mace and Julia Hernandez. In their final regular season home game, both seniors scored a pair of goals as No. 9 UCLA defeated Oregon State, 6-0.

Mace, in her first game back after helping the U.S. Women's National Team win the Women's Concacaf Championship, started at left back and scored two first-half goals, including the game-winner. Hernandez recorded her first two goals of the year, one in each half.

Not to be outdone, sophomore Ashley Sanchez also scored two goals and added an assist for good measure.

The Bruins were never tested in the game, allowing just one shot and scoring their first goal at 7:10. Mace put UCLA up early, smashing in a shot from an Olivia Athens pass after a corner kick. Hernandez got her first goal of the game in the 16th minute after Jessie Fleming was taken down in the box. The Bruins handed the ball to Hernandez for the penalty kick, and the senior buried it for her first goal of the year.

Four minutes later, the Bruins struck again. Fleming and Athens combined on pin-point perfect passes to find Sanchez alone on the left side. Sanchez sent a low shot to the far post to increase UCLA's lead to 3-0.

Mace's hustle created her second goal of the game in the 29th minute. An Oregon State clearance came across the pitch, and Mace pounced on it, took one touch and then hammered a left-footed shot from outside the box into the far right corner for her fourth goal of the season in just six games.

UCLA did not take its 4-0 halftime lead lightly, continuing on the attack and outshooting the Beavers 12-0 in the second half. Hernandez earned her second goal in the 62nd minute. Delanie Sheehan and Sanchez executed a give and go on the right wing, and Sheehan crossed to Hernandez inside the box. The senior one-timed it past Oregon State goalkeeper Lindsay Lamont to push the lead to 5-0.

Sanchez completed the goal-scoring in the 89th minute on a superb effort. After collecting a short corner kick, Sanchez did a shake-and-bake to get some space and fired a rocket from outside the box to join Mace and Hernandez in the two-goal party.

Lauren Brzykcy picked up the shutout victory in goal for the Bruins, who outshot the Beavers, 21-1. The shutout was her second solo shutout of the year. Lamont made nine saves for Oregon State.

UCLA, which won its sixth straight, improves to 11-3-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the Pac-12, while Oregon State drops to 2-14-0, 1-7-0 in conference play.

The Bruins will travel to Utah and Colorado next week before wrapping up the regular season slate on Nov. 2 at StubHub Center against USC.
