Oregon State hosts Beyond the Classroom record with attendance of 8,820

CORVALLIS – The No. 8 Oregon State women's basketball team cruised past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 89-33 Wednesday afternoon before a crowd of 8,828 as the team hosted its annual Beavers Beyond the Classroom game.

"There was a lot of energy in Gill today, and it was a pleasure to be a part of," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I'm thankful to all of the schools that chose to be a part of this, as they helped create an incredible environment for everyone involved. I thought we played really hard today and moved the ball well. We gave a great effort on both ends of the floor. I'm really pleased today and grateful to be part of such a great event."

The crowd was the third-biggest in Oregon State women's basketball history, and the team's largest ever for a Beavers Beyond the Classroom game.

Junior Mikayla Pivec put up a double-double, going for 12 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum finished with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. The point guard also dished out 11 assists, as she notched the first double-double of her Oregon State career.

Junior Kat Tudor hit four 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 18 points, and also pulled down eight rebounds. Senior Katie McWilliams rounded out four Beavers in double-figures, as she tallied 13 points and five boards.

Joanna Grymek recorded eight points on 4-for-5 shooting, while freshman Jasmine Simmons scored seven. Junior Janessa Thropay tallied eight steals, the highest total by a Beaver player since 2012.

As a team, Oregon State shot 50 percent in the game and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 20.3 percent shooting. The Beavers also out-scored the Lions 42-10 on points in the paint.

Oregon State used a 22-0 first quarter run to jump in front 26-4. The Beavers held the Lions scoreless for a stretch of over seven minutes to end the opening period.  Oregon State continued to dominate in the second period to head to the locker room up 48-10.

Oregon State shot 51.4 percent in the opening 20 minutes, compared to 13.8 percent for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Pivec tallied a double-double in the first half with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Beavers continued to roll from there, taking the win by 56.
